Therapeutic ultrasound has been used in human physical therapy consistently since the 1950s and its benefits continue to make it a mainstay in tendon healing, joint mobility recovery and chronic neck and back pain. It’s heat generation is both soothing and promotes increased tissue extensibility helping to restore normal joint range of motion. The acoustic waves actually promote healing and reorganization of collagen for a stronger and longer lasting repair. This modality does require shaving so we will utilize other modalities when possible, but in certain circumstances, there is no substitute for therapeutic ultrasound.
