Our Mission
MobilityVet, Inc. was founded in 2024 with a mission to maximize accessibility to quality veterinary rehabilitation care and eliminate owner and canine mobility concerns as a cause for poor recovery and early loss of the quintessential best friend. In her history working in multispecialty, Dr. Porterfield noted the critical need for this care when owners were too frightened to injure their post-operative pets to transport them to the hospital for the care they needed. She also saw owners throwing out their own backs to hoist their paralyzed dogs in and out of the car to get to the clinic. Sometimes, it was just the weather that prevented their visits. Whatever the case, when she founded MobilityVet she truly wanted a long-term mobile practice to make sure these pets get the care they deserve from day one to their final days.
Aside from the mobility of the practice, Dr. Porterfield also wanted the best in mobility for her patients. As a child she remembers the day that the family German Shepherd was put down because he just couldn’t get up and move around anymore. As a veterinarian, she now knows that he may have had degenerative myelopathy, or hip dysplasia, or both. Whatever the cause, she’s certain that if her service had been available back then, he could have walked again. They could have had more time with him. And not just time laying with him unable to move, but true quality time with him regaining mobility for months or even years. Her mission is to make sure that families can access quality veterinary rehabilitation from the comfort of their homes to maximize the mobility and comfort of their pets through their golden years!
